Organic
Farming

No herbicides since 2021.
The rest follows naturally.

When we founded Tenuta Magrini in 2022 in Grazzano Badoglio, one decision had already been made: no chemical herbicides. Since 2021 our vineyards have not seen a weedkiller, because living soil is the foundation of everything else.

In 2023, ICEA certification — from the Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale — formalised a practice already deeply embedded in our work. The conversion was not a rupture: it was the missing step in a path already under way.

We manage our vines with the support of XFarm, a digital agriculture platform that lets us monitor phenology and climate in real time, reducing treatments to the bare minimum. We preserve the woodland behind the vines as a natural biodiversity reservoir. We use lightweight bottles and Nomacorc Green closures, 100% recyclable. Every choice points the same way: leaving the world a little better than we found it.

What people
always ask us

When did Tenuta Magrini start organic farming?

Tenuta Magrini eliminated herbicides in 2021, adopting a natural, soil-respecting approach from the very beginning. Formal conversion to organic with ICEA certification followed in 2023.

What does ICEA certification mean for a wine?

ICEA (Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale) certification guarantees that vineyards are managed in accordance with the EU organic farming regulation: no synthetic pesticides, no chemical herbicides, organic fertilisation only. It involves annual third-party inspections by an independent body.

Does organic farming really improve wine quality?

In the vineyard, organic practices encourage microbial life in the soil, promote deeper root growth and increase the vine's resilience to water stress. The result is a grape that expresses the character of its place more faithfully. It is not an absolute quality guarantee, but it is a necessary condition for wines that truly reflect their terroir.

What is XFarm and how is it used in the vineyard?

XFarm is a digital farming platform that enables real-time monitoring of agronomic parameters — temperature, humidity and phenological stages. At Tenuta Magrini it is used to optimise permitted organic treatments, reduce interventions to the minimum necessary and maintain the farm record book in digital format.

How does sustainability in the cellar complement spontaneous fermentation?

Tenuta Magrini uses lightweight bottles — less glass, lower carbon footprint — and Nomacorc Green closures, which are 100% recyclable and made from bio-based materials. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no invasive oenological corrections.
